Workshop Saturday Morning Cartoons

January 22, 2022

Eh, what's up doc? As a 16mm film collector, I've been itchin' to share my treasure trove of classic cartoons with my friends and soon-to-be-friends for quite some time now. And let me tell ya, it was an absolute BLAST!

To make sure everything was perfect, I had to screen all the cartoons before the show and edit them together. Our workshop was packed with over 60 people ready to kickstart their weekend with some good ol' laughs and energy.

The event was one of our larger ones, with over 60 people showing up to our workshop. It was amazing to see everyone gather around the idea of meeting at 10:00 AM on a Saturday morning, ready to start their weekend with laughs and great overall energy.

Our workshop was completely transformed into cartoon land, brimming with fun props and a playful Looney Tunes photo backdrop. We also had vinyl spinning of classic music that perfectly complemented the style of cartoon music. And to satisfy our hunger, Pure Heart provided us with a delicious waffle bar.

But the real star of the show was, of course, the films. We picked cartoons from the golden age of cartoons on original 16mm film, with classics like "Porky's Service Station", "Hare Trigger", and "I Taw a Putty Tat" to name a few. The film was edited together the night before, and although it was my first time editing 16mm film (I've only edited 35mm before), I was thrilled that everything went smoothly without any mishaps.

The cartoons were edited into two parts with an intermission, where we provided morning beverages to keep everyone energized. The intermission also gave us time to chat and connect with each other, sharing our favorite moments and laughs from the first part of the show.

Overall, the event was a huge success and I am already excited to plan our next film event in the near future. It was great to see everyone come together to enjoy something so innocent as cartoons and waffles. And that, my friends, is the power of film and community coming together in the most fun and nostalgic way possible.
