Portrait Series No.11 @edgaranavarrete
1. What is your current occupation or profession?
My profession up to this point and likely what it will continue to be is community centered. Over the years that has taken many different forms but currently I am the Marketing & Communications Coordinator for San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP). You might also know us as cafécollege, or the sign that sticks out onto IH-35 as your driving on the westside of downtown. What we do at SAEP is vital to the success and growth of our city. We guide and support San Antonians with the tools and resources they need to attain a higher education beyond their HS diploma / GED.
2. Where were you born or what are your original roots?
I was born Monclovita La Bella (aka Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico). At an early age my family and I moved to San Antonio, which is what I consider home. I hope to one day return to the country that welcomed me into this world.
3. What are some of your interests or passions in life?
My current obsession is movement. I am intrigued by how we choose to move around the city and how we interact with our surroundings depending on that method of movement. Often times you can see me riding my bike around the city or even at times in-between cities. Other times you can find me running to the airport to catch a flight or simply walking down to my local coffee shop. I love the freedom that movement offers and how it easily connects us to our surroundings and community.
4. Do you have a favorite travel destination or a place you call home away from home?
Lately it’s been Cloudcroft, NM. Small mountain town in the Lincoln National forest. I love the cool weather, mountain views, and the trails they have up there.
5. What is a piece of advice or life lesson you hold onto?
Take the time to know the people around you. Everyone has a unique background and story. Respect each other. This is who makes up this beautiful community we call San Antonio.
6. Are there any particular goals or aspirations you are working towards?
I am currently trying to strike out in style, steal bases, and rob people from making big hits out on center field all while having had eaten a juicy burger the inning before. Just trying to have a good time with the Roses and the SA sandlot community.
7. Are there specific BEXAR Goods products that you have found to particularly appealing or useful in your daily life?
Gorilla Keeper, Slim Wallet, and a Bandana. Those are my current EDC that I must have on me, otherwise the day is off to a bad start.
